MAYOR Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV of General Trias, Cavite was recently awarded “Outstanding Local Chief Executive” by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) as a deputized officer for Region 4A. This coincided with the city’s recognition as a key partner in advancing peace, public safety, and community empowerment through the Community and Service-Oriented Policing (CSOP) system.
Both awards reflect the sustained emphasis of Ferrer’s administration on collaborative public safety initiatives in strengthening ties between the local government, the police force, barangay officials, and community stakeholders to make General Trias safer and more resilient.
Under his leadership, the city council has prioritized not only law enforcement but community preparedness and coordinated response to disasters to instill the message that public safety is everyone’s responsibility.
On the issue of illegal drugs, Mayor Ferrer has also taken a firm and community-driven stance by addressing the police and barangay leaders with a direct call to action. Ferrer said, “Sabihin ninyo kung sino ang gumagamit at nagtutulak sa inyong barangay. Nandyan si Chief, pagtulung-tungan natin. Hindi madali, pero hindi impossible.” He further stressed that those who condone the drug menace are not welcome in General Trias.
A member of the coalition, Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG), Ferrer reiterated his strong stance against illegal drugs and emphasized that those who tolerate or support such activities go against his principles. He went on to warn the officials, saying, “Kung mayroon man dito sa inyo na sinusuportahan ang mga tulak at mga gumagamit, pasensya na po. Magkaaway po tayo.”
Nevertheless, the mayor clarified that he will always stand behind those who fight against illegal drugs, even if it means facing legal battles together.
Following the recent recognitions on public safety, Mayor Ferrer said he intends to illustrate a broader strategy that links public safety, community engagement, and service-oriented policing. “Atin po ang award na ito, kayo ang dahilan kung bakit nakuha natin ito,” he said.
