On May 22, 2025, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office IV A and Naic Municipal Agriculture Office, officially launched the Farmers Field School on Production of High Quality Inbred Rice Seeds and Farm Mechanization at Gracita Johnson’s Residence, Malainen Bago, Naic, aiming to equip Cavite farmers with advanced agricultural methods and modern mechanisms.
Punong Barangay Lito Catibayan of Malainen Bago warmly greeted attendees, stating that he was pleased to have learned that their barangay was chosen for such a meaningful project as this would strengthen the capabilities of the farmers.
Engr. Anna Pamela Nova-Cruz, OIC-Provincial Agriculturist, together with Ms. Pamela Cordero, Naic Municipal Agriculturist; Ms. Chilina Beato of RFO IV-A; and Mr. Ruben Perlas of APCO-Cavite, graced the event, expressing their support and commitment to empowering farmers with in-depth knowledge to foster a sustainable and resilient farming sector amid the challenges of the modern economy.
Ms. Lilian Telmo then provided the thirty-six (36) participating farmers with a deeper understanding of the Farmers Field School by delivering an overview of the project, highlighting its scope and expected outcomes.
In addition, a pre-test was administered to gauge the farmers’ current understanding and align their expectations regarding rice production.
The FFS project is initiated not only to teach the ABCs and know-how of rice production, but also to provide on-hand experiences and practices for a long-term impact to the farming sector. (J. Reyes)
