March 22 declared holiday in Cavite

KAWIT, Cavite — Malacañang has declared March 22 a nonworking holiday in the province of Cavite in commemoration of the 156th birth anniversary of the first Philippine president, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the proclamation by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on March 7.

Kawit Mayor Angelo Emilio Aguinaldo, great-grandson of Aguinaldo, will lead the wreath-laying ceremony at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Barangay Kaingin.

Popularly known as Heneral Miong, Aguinaldo was one of the revolutionary leaders during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. He was born on March 22, 1869, and died on Feb. 6, 1964. (By Dennis Abrina)
