On February 26, 2025, a chess competition was held at the new Provincial Capitol Building in Trece Martires City as part of the ongoing Provincial Government of Cavite(PGC) employees’ sports fest. The event brought together 21 competitors from various PGC offices and departments, showcasing their critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
The tournament commenced with Mr. Israel Landicho, Chief Arbiter, explaining the rules, mechanics, and scoring system to the participants. Following this, the players engaged in a series of intense rounds, demonstrating impressive moves and strategies to outmaneuver their opponents and achieve checkmate.
After a day of fierce competition, five standout players emerged as victors. Mr. Ronald Gadayan from the Office of the Provincial Legal Officer secured the 4th runner-up position, while Mr. Edgar Olegario from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer claimed the 3rd runner-up spot. Mr. Cheeno Ayos from the Office of the Provincial Engineer earned the 2nd runner-up position, and Mr. Yasser Dela Cruz from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer achieved the 1st runner-up title. Ultimately, Mr. Hilarion Alcantara from the Office of the Provincial Engineer was crowned Champion, clinching the top spot of the tournament.
The ongoing Inter-Department Sportsfest is facilitated by the Office of the Provincial Youth Development Officer. The initiative reflects the Provincial Government of Cavite’s commitment to fostering camaraderie, teamwork, and a stronger network among its employees. (J. Reyes)
