The Provincial Government of Cavite signed a joint venture agreement (JVA) with two private firms last Monday for a bus rapid transit (BRT) project aimed at improving public transportation and easing traffic congestion.
Cavite Gov. Athena Tolentino entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) through a signing ceremony with the Megawide Corporation and Maplecrest Group, Inc. at the Twin Lakes Hotel along Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway.
Tolentino said the BRT project is going to be a point-to-point system that will connect the towns and cities of Kawit, General Trias, Imus, Tanza and Trece Martires. It spans 42 kilometers and is expected to reduce travel time for commuters.
The project has a proposed budget of P1.87-million with 37 bus stations and three terminals. It will be operating 24/7 with a link to Metro Manila. Tolentino said the BRT program was approved on December 26, 2024 and awarded to winning bidders through a JVA.
“This is a great help to our fellow citizens of Cavite, not only in Imus, but in the entire province of Cavite,” said Imus City Mayor Alex Advincula, who was among the local government officials present to witness the signing ceremony.
Signing for the Maplecrest Group were president Erlaster Sotto and chairman Guillermo Choa. Meanwhile, Megawide was represented by its CEO Edgar Saavedra and Chief Business Development Officer Jaime Feliciano.
Also present at the program were Cavite Vice Governor Shernan Jaro; Board Members Arnel Cantimbuhan, Raymundo Del Rosario, Kerby Salazar, Rainier Ambion; and PPP Cavite chairperson Renato Abutan.
