Cavite fisher shows diesel he bought amid oil price hike

A fisherfolk leader in Cavite displayed a four-liter container of diesel he bought for his fishing trip, noting the impact of the staggered oil price hikes.

The photo posted on Facebook by fisher group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) was captioned: “This four-liter container of diesel had a 60% price increase, from P250 to P400, after the staggered price increases.”

In the same Facebook post on Wednesday, Pamalakaya urged the government to remove the value-added tax (VAT) and excise tax on fuel, which it said currently add P15 to P17 per liter.

It reiterated that without the VAT and excise tax, a fisherfolk who typically consumes around 10 liters of fuel per fishing trip would be able to save P150 per operation.

Pamalakaya also joined demonstrations as fuel price spikes began Tuesday. /das
